Up in Auckland – The Sky Tower in Auckland allegedly is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, which isn’t all that impressive when you consider that it’s mostly covered with water. But the view of the city and the more than 50 volcanoes that have shaped its landscape is very impressive. It was even nicer that in the Café you could not only get rock-hard slices, bone-dry scones or cardboard filled with custard, but actually a real piece of cake.

Some like it hot – At the museum café in Auckland, the waitress asked me if I wanted the brownie heated. The kiwi likes to heat everything edible, probably because it is so cold in the drafty wooden houses without central heating. Imagine being asked in a German café if you would like a slice of Black Forest Cake warmed up. That would be murder and manslaughter.
