Objektiv betrachtet ist der Dom in Aachen ja ein ziemlicher Verhau. Von dem ursprünglich recht schlichten Karolingerbau ist nicht mehr viel zu sehen, weil die folgenden Jahrhunderte innen und außen furchtbar herumgepfuscht haben. Aber wenn man dann vor dem Thron steht, auf dem Karl vermutlich nie gesessen hat, kann man nicht anders als zu erschaudern, nicht nur, weil es in der Kirche recht kühl ist.
