Traumberufe
Ich arbeite eigentlich gerne draußen in der Natur, aber für eine Ausbildung zum Förster bin ich leider nicht robust genug gewesen. Berufsjäger ging auch nicht, weil ich nicht räumlich sehen kann und ständig daneben schießen würde. Berufssammler wäre möglich gewesen, aber da lebt man von der Hand in den Mund. Das war mir dann doch zu wenig.
Dream jobs – I actually like working outside in nature, but unfortunately I wasn’t robust enough to train as a forester. Professional hunters didn’t work either, because I can’t see three-dimensionally and would constantly miss shooting. Professional gatherer would have been possible, but that’s where you live from hand to mouth. That wasn’t enough for me.

Da das unchristliche Betragen der haltlosen Zecher den Herrn Pfarrer um seine Nachtruhe gebracht hatte, wurde die Gassenschänke kurzerhand in eine Besenkammer umfunktioniert, den Sündern zur Mahnung und um sie daran zu erinnern, immer schön sauber zu bleiben.
Our village should become more beautiful – Since the unchristian behavior of the reveling revelers had robbed the pastor of his night’s sleep, the street tavern was quickly converted into a broom closet as a reminder to the sinners to always stay nice and clean.
Keine Alternative
Als ich auf dem Flughafen in Singapur einmal Hunger hatte, gab es überall diese geschmackvollen Automaten. Da ich aber unbedingt etwas Geschmackloses essen wollte, bin ich eben zum amerikanischen Fast-food-Restaurant gegangen.
No alternative – Once, when I was hungry at the Singapore airport, there were these tasteful vending machines everywhere. But since I really wanted to eat something tasteless, I just went to the American fast-food restaurant.
Preiswerte Bildung
Freunde schicken ihre Tochter jetzt auf eine sündteure europäische Schule, wo man ein Dutzend Sprachen lernen kann und hinterher Kommissar in Brüssel werden darf. Meine Nachbarn ihr Sohn dagegen geht auf die 1-Euro-Schule, wo man höchstens bilingual eine aufs Maul bekommt, aber da er groß und kräftig ist, bringt er mehr Geld heim als der Spaß kostet.
Inexpensive education – Friends are now sending their daughter to a ridiculously expensive European school where you can learn a dozen languages and then become a commissioner in Brussels. My neighbours son, on the other hand, goes to the 1-euro school, where the best you can get is a bilingual slap in the face, but since he is big and strong, he brings home more money than the fun costs.

Die Weiße Hand
Während die Schwarze Hand bekannt ist als entweder serbische Königsmörderbande oder deutsche Kinderbuchdetektive, also so oder so als höchst kriminelle Vereinigung, ist die Weiße Hand ein lockerer Zusammenschluss von harmlosen und freundlichen Narren, die gerne Tisch und Wände beschmutzen. Das muss eine demokratische Gesellschaft aushalten können.
The White Hand – While the Black Hand is known as either a Serbian kingslayer gang or German children’s book detectives, either way as a highly criminal organization, the White Hand is a loose association of harmless and friendly fools who like to soil tables and walls. A democratic society must be able to withstand this.

Roald Dahl illustrieren
Im August 2015 war die wunderbare Kat Menschik unsere Gastdozentin im Grafischen Trainingslager des Nordkollegs in Rendsburg. Sie gab uns unter anderem die Aufgabe, je eine Seite der Erzählung „William und Mary“ von Roald Dahl zu illustrieren. So kam ein wirklich sehr schönes Büchlein zusammen. Ich steuerte auch eine Seite und das Titelbild bei.
Illustrate Roald Dahl – In August 2015, the wonderful Kat Menschik was our guest lecturer at the graphics training camp of the Nordkolleg in Rendsburg. Among other things, she gave us the task of illustrating one page each of Roald Dahl’s story “William and Mary”. This is how a really nice little book came together. I also contributed a page and the cover.
