Als mein Onkel Knut in Pension ging, erfüllte er sich einen Kindheitstraum und kaufte sich einen Öltanker. Leider war das Schiff zu groß für den Gartenteich, darum kaufte er den Atlantik gleich dazu. Es sei praktisch, dass der Verkäufer des Tankers auch einen Ozean im Angebot habe, denn die seien ja bekanntlich ziemlich selten. Der Mann habe zugesagt, dass beides innerhalb von zwei Tagen geliefert werden könne, wenn er bar bezahle. Zufällig hätten Schiff und Atlantik genauso viel gekostet, wie er gerade im Haus gehabt habe.
From the Family Album – When my Uncle Knut retired, he fulfilled a childhood dream and bought himself an oil tanker. Unfortunately, the ship was too big for the garden pond, so he bought the Atlantic to go with it. He remarked that it was convenient that the tanker’s seller also had an ocean on offer, since those are known to be quite rare. The man had promised that both could be delivered within two days if he paid in cash. As it happened, the ship and the Atlantic cost exactly the amount of money he had in the house at the time.
