Wer noch nie in Kreta war, muss gar nicht so weit in den Süden reisen, sondern fährt einfach nach Wien, wo es im 10. Bezirk ein kleines Grätzel gibt, das „Die Kreta“ heißt und einmal als die ärmste und gefährlichste Gegend Wiens galt. Natürlich gibt es hier keinen Strand und keine wilde Insellandschaft zu bestaunen, aber wer einige zehn Minuten an einer Ecke stehenbleibt und nichts weiter tut als zu schauen, wird sicher etwas sehen, das es auf keiner griechischen Insel zu sehen gibt.

Of course, there’s no beach or wild island scenery to admire here, but if you stand on a corner for a few ten minutes and do nothing but look around, you’re sure to see something you won’t find on any Greek island.
