Wie das Internationale Olympische Komitee mitteilt, werden Kletterpflanzen künftig von allen Wettbewerben ausgeschlossen, da sie aufgrund ihrer natürlichen Merkmale einerseits einen Vorteil hätten und andererseits, weil sie Wettbewerbe unnötig in die Länge ziehen würden. Mancher Efeu brauche schon mehrere Tage, bis er einen Fuß an die Wand bekomme. Soviel Zeit habe man nicht.
Botany news -The International Olympic Committee has announced that climbing plants will be excluded from all competitions in the future, because their natural characteristics give them an advantage and because they unnecessarily prolong competitions. Some ivies need several days to get a foot on the wall. There isn’t that much time.

Immer mehr Tiere orientieren sich an den schlechten Ernährungsgewohnheiten der Menschen und werden daher übergewichtig. Besonders in den Städten sieht man zunehmend adipöse Katzen, Hunde und Vögel. Gerade unter den Möwen sind besonders viele Individuen von Pizza, Pommes und anderem fast food abhängig. Die nunmehr flugunfähigen Vögel werden zwar von den Katzen gejagt, aber nur die wenigen normalgewichtigen haben dabei auch Erfolg. Die meisten Möwen rollen irgendwann vom Gehweg und werden überfahren.
News from the animal kingdom – More and more animals are following the poor eating habits of humans and are therefore becoming overweight. In cities in particular, obese cats, dogs and birds are becoming increasingly common. Seagulls in particular are dependent on pizza, chips and other fast food. The birds, which are now unable to fly, are hunted by the cats, but only the few that are of normal weight are successful. Most seagulls eventually roll off the sidewalk and are run over.

Die Geschichte vom Turmbau zu Babel kennt vermutlich jeder, aber nur wenigen ist bekannt, dass in der Bibel nicht die ganze Wahrheit steht. Denn tatsächlich hatten die Babylonier gar nicht vor, einen Turm zu bauen, sondern errichteten den für die damalige Zeit weltgrößten Imbissstand. Aber wie das mit größenwahnsinnigen Projekten schon immer war, scheiterte auch dieses nicht etwa an einem eifersüchtigen Gott, sondern an einer unerwarteten Steigerung des Schweinedarmpreises, der das Bratwurstgeschäft in der Region auf Jahre hinaus ruinierte.
How it really was – Everyone probably knows the story of the Tower of Babel, but only a few know that the Bible does not tell the whole truth. In fact, the Babylonians did not actually intend to build a tower, but instead built what was then the world’s largest snack stand. But as has always been the case with megalomaniac projects, this one failed not because of a jealous God, but because of an unexpected increase in the price of pig intestines, which ruined the bratwurst business in the region for years to come.
Nichts Neues von Nobel (5)
Was viele nicht wissen, ist, dass der Friedensnobelpreis nur gestiftet worden ist, weil sich Alfred einmal ziemlich daneben benommen hat. Mit einer einfachen Entschuldigung war es nicht getan, also sorgte der Übeltäter dafür, dass man Bertha von Suttner den ersten Friedensnobelpreis verlieh. Da konnte sie schlecht Nein sagen.
Nothing new from Nobel – What many people don’t know is that the Nobel Peace Prize was only established because Alfred once behaved quite badly. A simple apology wasn’t enough, so the culprit made sure that Bertha von Suttner was awarded the first Nobel Peace Prize. She couldn’t really say no to that.
