In den letzten Tagen hat es so viel geregnet, dass ich die Sonne zum Trocknen aufhängen musste.

Annoying – It has rained so much in the past few days that I had to hang out the sun to dry.

Meine Eltern sind ja beide Künstler. Bis zu ihrer Scheidung kommunizierten sie nur noch mittels abstrakter Rauminstallationen, die aus einem bestimmten Winkel betrachtet sich zu vulgären Ausdrücken und Drohungen formten. Ich vermute, dass meine Abneigung gegenüber moderner Kunst damit zusammenhängt.

My parents are both artists. Until their divorce, they only communicated by means of abstract room installations that, viewed from a certain angle, formed into vulgar expressions and threats. I suspect my dislike of modern art is related to this.

In der Kantine der Bayerischen Staatskanzlei genießen nur der Ministerpräsident und sein kleiner Koalitionspartner von den Freien Wählern das Privileg von einem eigenen Teller zu essen. Hier sieht man diese an Haken an der Wand befestigt, den Häkchen zur Mahnung, dass sie sich nur recht schön krümmen mögen, auf dass auch sie einmal einen eigenen Teller bekämen. Das Fußvolk bekommt aber immerhin einen Holzlöffel, mit dem sie einmal in den großen Topf eintauchen dürfen, freilich streng dem Dienstgrad folgend. Wenn die untersten Ränge dran sind, ist der Topf aber meist schon leer.

That’s how it goes in Bavaria
In the canteen of the Bavarian State Chancellery, only the Prime Minister and his little coalition partner of the Free Voters enjoy the privilege of eating from their own plate. Here you can see them attached to hooks on the wall, as a reminder for the hooklets that they should only bend nicely so that they too would get their own plate one day. The staff at least gets a wooden spoon with which they can dip into the large pot, strictly following their rank. When it comes to the bottom ranks, the pot is usually empty.
