Der geschäftstüchtigere Teil der Familie hat schon vor Jahrzehnten auf ein teures Grabdenkmal verzichtet und stattdessen diesen Abfalleimer aufstellen lassen. Der Verkauf des Mülls an das städtische Abfallwirtschaftsamt bezahlt nicht nur die Grabmiete, allein der Erlös der Pfandflaschen reicht inzwischen aus, den nächsten Leichenschmaus von einem Sternekoch ausrichten zu lassen. Meine beiden alten Großtanten wetteifern nun darum, sich ins Grab zu saufen, weil sie genau wissen: Wer zuletzt stirbt, wird draufzahlen müssen, um nicht im Vergleich mit der Schwester schlecht dazustehen.

The more enterprising part of the family did without an expensive grave monument decades ago and instead had this trash can erected. The sale of the garbage to the municipal waste management office not only pays the grave rent, the proceeds from the deposit bottles are now sufficient to have the next funeral arranged by a star chef. My two old great aunts are now vying with eachother for drinking themselves into the grave because they know exactly: Whoever dies last will have to pay extra to avoid being badly compared to their sister.
