In Bratislava den Dom zu besuchen, ist gar nicht so einfach. Vom Bahnhof kommend, trifft man zuerst auf den „Europsky Dom“, aber der ist im Inneren genauso langweilig wie von außen und ist sicher nicht das Gebäude, in dem jahrhundertelang die ungarischen Könige gekrönt worden sind. Dann sieht man den komischen Turm und denkt sich, das müsse wohl der richtige Dom sein, aber es ist nur ein Stadttor. Hübsch zwar, aber viel zu wenig Platz für eine Kathedrale. Am Rande der Altstadt, direkt neben einer Autobahn steht dann tatsächlich der Dom, der seit 2002 ein Kulturdenkmal ist. Allerdings habe ich nirgends einen Hinweis gefunden, welcher Kultur hier gedacht werden soll. Darum habe ich ein bisschen an meinen Kulturbeutel gedacht. Das passiert auch nicht so oft.
Facade Deception – Visiting the dome in Bratislava isn’t as easy as it seems. Coming from the train station, you first encounter the „Europsky Dom,“ but its interior is just as boring as its exterior, and it’s certainly not the building where Hungarian kings were crowned for centuries. Then you see the odd-looking tower and think that must be the real cathedral, but it’s just a city gate. Pretty, yes, but far too small for a cathedral. On the edge of the old town, right next to a highway, you finally find the actual cathedral, which has been a cultural memorial since 2002. However, I couldn’t find any indication of which culture it was meant to commemorate. So I remembered my toiletries bag. That doesn’t happen very often.
