Wenn Köche Pause machen, dann ganz anders als wir uns das vorstellen. Endlich mal keine Gäste sehen müssen, keine Töpfe und vor allem kein Essen. Einfach irgendwo sitzen, wo es nach Pisse stinkt und nicht nach Bratfett. Einfach mal ungestört in der Nase bohren dürfen und auf dem Handy Videos glotzen von Leuten, die magersüchtig sind oder von Lebensmittelunverträglichkeiten berichten. Anders hält man diesen Job ja kaum aus.

Lunch break – When chefs take a break, it’s not at all what we imagine. Finally, no guests to see, no pots and pans, and above all, no food. Just sitting somewhere that smells of pee, not cooking oil. Just being able to pick your nose undisturbed and watch videos on your phone of people who are anorexic or talking about food intolerances. Otherwise, you can hardly stand this job.

Rechtsextreme Evangelikale aus den USA propagieren hier die alberne Analogie, der US-amerikanische Präsident sei ein moderner Kyros, der bekanntlich die Juden aus dem babylonischen Exil befreit hat. Das ist so absurd und ahistorisch, dass es fast schon lustig wäre, wäre da nicht der Umstand, dass die evangelikalen Fanatiker Israel nur deshalb so massiv unterstützen, weil sie darauf hoffen, dass Christus bald zurückkehrt und es dann zur letzten Schlacht zwischen Gut und Böse kommt, bei der alle Christusleugner, also natürlich auch alle Juden umkommen. So sympathische Freunde kann sich auch nur jemand wünschen, der nicht alle Tassen im Oberstübchen hat.

Cult of Personality – Far-right evangelicals from the USA are propagating the ludicrous analogy that the US president is a modern-day Cyrus, who famously freed the Jews from Babylonian exile. This is so absurd and ahistorical that it would almost be funny were it not for the fact that these evangelical fanatics support Israel so massively only because they hope that Christ will soon return and that the final battle between good and evil will take place, in which all deniers of Christ, including all Jews, will perish. Only someone who isn’t all there in the head could wish for such likeable friends.

Die Katzen von Jerusalem machen was und wann sie wollen. Sie genießen die Aussicht vom Tempelberg, schlafen unterhalb der Klagemauer und jagen Mäuse in der Grabeskirche. Ob den Menschen ein Ort so heilig ist, dass sie sich die Köpfe darüber einschlagen, ist den Katzen egal. Sie schlafen unter der gleichen Sonne. Man könnte in Jerusalem noch einiges mehr von den Katzen lernen.

Als sich neulich ein Regenbogen in den Oberleitungen verheddert hatte und darum eine Straße eine Stunde lang gesperrt werden musste, haben sich die Leute aufgeregt und mit den Augen gerollt und auf „die da oben“ geschimpft, wie sie es immer tun, wenn es einmal nicht um sie geht und sie mit ihren Benzinkutschen nicht vom Fleck kommen. Die meisten Leute sind bedauernswerte Trottel.

Draußen vor der Stadt werden auf der grünen Wiese nicht nur Gewerbegebiete, Ikeamärkte und Outlets errichtet, sondern seit neulich auch zwei riesige Gänse. Laut dem Heimatministerium handelt es sich um eine Infrastrukturmaßnahme, die vom Bund mit einem dreistelligen Millionenbetrag gefördert wird, aber der zuständige Sachbearbeiter sei gerade in psychiatrischer Behandlung und daher könne man leider keine Auskunft über Sinn und Zweck der Bauwerke geben. Außerdem sei das sowieso eine philosophische Frage.

Es dauerte eine ganze Weile, bis ich merkte, weshalb mich alle so komisch ansahen. Ich hatte mich verlesen und der Aufforderung scheinbar entsprechend bitter gelächelt.
