Die Ostdeutschen wurden nicht nur 40 Jahre lang über den Zustand ihrer piefigen kleinen Diktatur belogen und betrogen, sondern 28 Jahre lang insbesondere über die Geschichte der einzigen Institution der DDR, die aus Versehen funktionierte. Tatsächlich sah der ursprüngliche Bauplan vor, die Mauer aus mit Plastekugeln gefüllten Gabionen aus dem „VEB Bällebad“ zu errichten, damit die Unterdrückten wenigstens etwas fürs Auge hätten. Aufgrund der Unfähigkeit der Betriebsleitung wurden die Fertigteile aber aus Beton gegossen. Die DDR-Bürger fanden das Bauwerk so hässlich, dass sich die überwiegende Mehrheit weigerte, darüber zu sprechen oder gar in die Nähe dieser Monstrosität zu gehen.
What it really was like – East Germans were not only lied to and deceived for 40 years about the state of their petty little dictatorship, but for 28 years, especially about the history of the GDR’s only institution that functioned by accident. In fact, the original construction plan called for the wall to be built from gabions filled with plastic balls from the „VEB Ball Pool“ so that the oppressed would at least have something to look at. However, due to the incompetence of the management, the prefabricated elements were cast in concrete. The GDR citizens found the structure so ugly that the vast majority refused to talk about it or even go near this monstrosity.
