Inzwischen ist die deutsche Einheit trotz gegenteiliger Presseberichte völlig hergestellt: Außen Schwarz-Rot-Gold, innen bräunlich mit grünen Kotzbrocken.

Der Sky Tower in Auckland ist angeblich das höchste Gebäude der Südhalbkugel, was, wenn man bedenkt, dass diese v.a. aus Wasser besteht, nicht mehr ganz so beeindruckend ist. Sehr eindrucksvoll ist aber der Ausblick auf die Stadt und die über 50 Vulkane, die ihre Landschaft geformt haben. Noch schöner war, dass man im Turmcafé nicht nur steinharte slices, staubtrockene scones oder mit custard gefüllte Pappe, sondern tatsächlich ein richtiges Stück Torte bekommen konnte.
Up in Auckland – The Sky Tower in Auckland allegedly is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, which isn’t all that impressive when you consider that it’s mostly covered with water. But the view of the city and the more than 50 volcanoes that have shaped its landscape is very impressive. It was even nicer that in the Café you could not only get rock-hard slices, bone-dry scones or cardboard filled with custard, but actually a real piece of cake.
Kulturell haben die meisten Kleinstädte nicht viel zu bieten, das ist auch in Neuseeland nicht anders. Aber in manchen Orten gibt es überraschend gute Museen, in New Plymouth z.B. die Govett Brewster Art Gallery, die nicht nur architektonisch interessanter ist als vieles, was so in Deutschland herumsteht, sondern auch sehr schöne Kunst gezeigt hat.
Oasis in the desert – Most small towns don’t have much to offer culturally, and that’s no different in New Zealand. But in some places there are surprisingly good museums, in New Plymouth e.g. the Govett Brewster Art Gallery, which is not only architecturally more interesting than much of what is around in Germany, but also has very beautiful art on display.
