Es besteht aus 371 Chromosomen, wodurch sich das häufig unregelmäßige Format erklärt, denn die Kettfäden sind ungleichmäßig gespannt. Dass diese physische Beeinträchtigung noch nicht zum Aussterben der Art geführt hat, liegt wohl daran, dass die meisten Menschen einen solchen Teppich nicht von einem Bettvorleger aus dem Möbelhaus unterscheiden können und einfach alles kaufen, was man ihnen an der Haustür andreht.
