Was den Gebäuden in Neuseeland fehlt, zumindest den Altbauten, und die meisten Leute leben in alten Holzhäusern, das sind eine ordentliche Dämmung und eine Zentralheizung. Im dortigen Winter habe ich die Vorzüge einer Heizdecke kennengelernt, während ein anderer sich offenbar ein Dieselaggregat ins Zimmer gestellt hat. Es war laut und es hat gestunken, aber die Passanten sind einfach über die rußige Abgaswolke gestiegen, als sei es das Normalste in der Welt.
House exhaust – What the buildings in New Zealand lack, at least the older buildings and most people live in old wooden houses, are proper insulation and central heating. In the winter there I got to know the advantages of an electric blanket, while somebody apparently put a diesel generator in his room. It was loud and it smelled, but passers-by just stepped over the sooty cloud of exhaust as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
