Als der Papst neulich dieses unförmige Gebilde auf seinem Dachboden fand, maß er dem keine große Bedeutung zu, denn der päpstliche Dachboden ist sehr groß und er findet dort ständig seltsame Dinge, die seine Vorgänger hinaufgeschafft haben. Das Ding war potthässlich, aber es weckte ungewohnte Gefühle in ihm. Seine Frau schlug die Hände über dem Kopf zusammen und drohte mit Scheidung, als er das Ungetüm ins Wohnzimmer schleppte (also vielmehr von einem Dutzend Ministranten schleppen ließ, er war schließlich ein alter Mann) doch das tat sie ohnehin jeden Tag mehrmals, weshalb er sie wie stets ignorierte. Zufällig warf anderntags ein Besucher einen Blick darauf und erkannte sofort die Sensation: Bei dem Monstrum handelte es sich zweifellos um eines von Michelangelos Übungsstücken. Der Meister war ja bekannt dafür, Menschen weitaus muskulöser abzubilden, als es die Natur möglich machte. Einige Kunsthistoriker wollen daher in diesem Stück den Versuch einer Christusfigur erkannt haben. Sie nennen es „Der Erlöser im Fitness-Studio“. Chinesische Sammler haben schon ihr Interesse angemeldet.

When the Pope recently found this bulky structure in his attic, he did not attach much importance to it, because the papal attic is very large and he always finds strange things that his predecessors put there. The thing was ugly, but it made him feel unfamiliar. His wife threw her hands up in horror and threatened with divorce as he dragged the monster into the living room (rather had a dozen altar servers do it, he was an old man after all) but she did that several times a day anyway, which is why he ignored her as always. A visitor happened to take a look the next day and immediately recognized the sensation: the monster was undoubtedly one of Michelangelo’s practice pieces. The master was known for depicting people far more muscularly than nature made possible. Some art historians therefore want to have recognized the attempt of a figure of Christ in this piece. They call it “The Saviour in the Gym”. Chinese collectors have already announced their interest.
