Mein alter Zithertrainer hat, wenn ich mich beim Spiel verzittert habe, immer gesagt: „Junge“, hat er gesagt, „ich weiß nicht, was ich dazu sagen soll, darum sag ich besser nichts.“ Soviel praktische Lebensweisheit hat mich damals schwer beeindruckt, bis mir neulich zugetragen wurde, der Alte habe grundsätzlich vergessen, was er sagen wollte und habe deshalb eh meistens nichts gesagt. Ich war darüber so perplex, dass ich nicht wusste, was ich dazu sagen sollte. Seitdem hält man mich für ebenso senil wie meinen alten Zithertrainer.
Disillusionment – My old zither trainer always said, “Boy”, when I was misshaking while playing, “I don’t know what to say about it, so I better not say anything.” So much practical wisdom impressed me at the time until I heard recently that the old man had basically always forgotten what he wanted to say and that is why he mostly said nothing anyway. I was so perplexed by this that I didn’t know what to say about it. Since then, I’ve been considered just as senile as my old zither trainer.
